There have been several articles in the past discussing the choice of video codec and arguments for and against (usually against) so-called Long GOP codecs. In this article I will be taking a closer look at GOP structures, discussing what Long GOP means and arguing that there is no one size fits all codec and that Long GOP, when used for the right content and application, is the only sensible choice.
As usual we try to do as much testing as possible and with as many interesting
videos as possible. This time we’ve been testing MotionBend 1.4.1 with 4K
footage from some recent cameras and thought we’d share some new screenshots.
In MotionBend 1.4 we have added support for reading more formats. In particular we wanted to add support for AVCHD MTS (MPEG Transport Stream) because it’s annoying to have to use some other software to convert the video before editing. Usually this is a simple re-mux to MP4 and does not involve further loss of quality, but still, it’s annoying. Now you can simply load the MTS directly into MotionBend.
While wandering through Selfridges, the department store in London, we came
across this Samsung 85 inch S9 series LED Ultra High Definition TV. The large
frame is a sound bar. It looks amazing; Samsung also offer a 3D version.
